The Nasopharyngeal Airway (NPA), also known as a nasal trumpet, is a disposable device used to maintain a patient's upper airway. The soft tube is inserted through a nostril into the nasopharynx to bypass an obstruction at the level of the tongue or soft palate, supporting oxygenation and ventilation.
An NPA is often better tolerated than an oropharyngeal airway (OPA) in patients with an intact gag reflex, making it useful in pre-hospital care, emergency departments, recovery, and aged care.
