The SWAT-T Tourniquet is a multipurpose dressing for rapid control of extremity bleeding. Its name describes how you use it: Stretch, Wrap and Tuck. Developed for military and civilian Special Weapons and Tactics teams, it addresses the leading cause of preventable death in the operational environment, extremity haemorrhage.
Unlike rigid windlass tourniquets, the SWAT-T is a flexible elastic wrap with printed indicators that show when correct tension has been applied. It can be used on limbs of any size, including paediatric patients, and allows application higher into the groin and axilla than most other tourniquets. When bleeding is less severe, the same product works as a pressure dressing or elastic bandage.
Key features
- Rapid haemorrhage control for arms, legs, groin and axilla
- Visual tension indicators printed on the wrap for correct application
- Suits adult and paediatric patients
- Doubles as a pressure dressing or elastic bandage
- Compact and lightweight, fits easily into a pocket, IFAK or vehicle kit
- Available in black (tactical) or orange (high-visibility rescue)
Who uses it
- Tactical and military medics
- Police, fire and ambulance first responders
- Workplace first aid officers in remote and high-risk settings
- Outdoor, hunting and adventure first aid kits
SWAT-T versus CAT tourniquet: the CAT uses a windlass to apply circumferential pressure and is the standard for arterial bleeding on a single limb. The SWAT-T is more versatile, working as a tourniquet, pressure dressing or bandage, and it adapts to smaller limbs where a windlass tourniquet may not seat correctly.
Avoid common application mistakes: placing the tourniquet too loosely, positioning it over a joint, removing it too early, or failing to note the time of application. The printed indicators on the SWAT-T help you confirm correct tension on the limb.
