The Slishman Tourniquet Conversion Trainer is a high‑fidelity, anatomically accurate simulation tool designed to teach the mechanics, limitations, and real‑world behaviour of tourniquets and pressure bandages. Representing a transverse cross‑section of the human upper leg, the trainer reveals the internal structures that matter most during haemorrhage control: the femur, quadriceps, hamstrings, vastus group, and surrounding soft tissues, along with anatomically placed arteries and veins.

Constructed using two grades of silicone, the model replicates the differing firmness of muscle groups and soft tissue. This creates a realistic tactile response when compressed, allowing learners to feel and see how pressure is transmitted through tissue layers and how occlusion actually occurs.

The trainer is specifically engineered to challenge the common misconception that tourniquets apply equal circumferential pressure. Instead, it clearly demonstrates that the pressure plate and cinch strap exert focused, directional force directly beneath them. This same principle is shown with pressure bandages, helping learners understand why applicator placement is critical for effective bleeding control.

A secure table‑edge clamp is included, allowing the trainer to be mounted for stable, hands‑on demonstrations, classroom instruction, and scenario‑based training.

Key Features

  • Anatomically Accurate Cross‑Section — Shows femur, quadriceps, hamstrings, vastus muscles, and soft tissue layers for realistic visual and tactile learning.
  • Dual‑Density Silicone Construction — Two firmness grades replicate the feel of real muscle and soft tissue under compression.
  • Realistic Artery & Vein Placement — Enables accurate demonstration of occlusion mechanics and pressure pathways.
  • Pressure Distribution Demonstration — Visually proves that tourniquets apply focused pressure beneath the plate and strap, not uniform circumferential force.
  • Ideal for Tourniquet Conversion Training — Helps learners understand safe, effective transition from tourniquet to pressure bandage.
  • Stable Mounting System — Includes clamp for secure attachment to desks, tables, or training stations.
  • Durable & Reusable — Built for repeated classroom, field, and simulation‑lab use.

Training Benefits

  • Builds a deeper understanding of how tourniquets actually work, beyond surface‑level technique.
  • Reinforces correct pressure plate and strap placement for maximum occlusion efficiency.
  • Demonstrates why pressure bandage applicator positioning is critical during tourniquet conversion.
  • Enhances learner confidence by connecting external technique with internal anatomy.
  • Supports TCCC, TECC, Stop the Bleed, and advanced haemorrhage‑control curricula.
  • Provides instructors with a powerful visual tool to correct misconceptions and improve skill retention.

FAQs

What does the Slishman Tourniquet Conversion Trainer teach?

It teaches how tourniquets and pressure bandages transmit force through tissue, how occlusion occurs, and why correct placement of pressure plates and applicators is essential.

Why is the cross‑section design important?

It exposes the internal anatomy—muscle groups, bone, arteries, and veins—so learners can see the relationship between external compression and internal structures.

Does the trainer simulate bleeding?

No. It is designed specifically for pressure mechanics and tourniquet conversion, not active bleeding simulation.

How is the trainer mounted?

A clamp is included to secure the model to a table or desk edge for stable, hands‑on demonstrations.

Is the silicone durable?

Yes. The trainer uses two grades of high‑quality silicone engineered for repeated compression and long‑term training use.
